Black Hole Caught Swallowing Star For The First Time

Black hole's have been thuggin' stars & other space debris for as long as the universe has been in existence. For decades these transgressions have gone unnoticed to Earth's busy body's at NASA. For the first time however Astronomers caught one swallowing a star minding its own business. NASA released the above animation of this rare event showing how the star fell victim to the black hole's greedy ass. Up to this point we've only been witnessed to the aftermath of such illicit galactic going's on, but now with NASA's Swift satellite we nosy earthlings were able to detect "high-energy flares coming from a new source" back in March. The culprit turned out to be Swift J1644+57, a previously dormant black hole located in the Draco constellation, just about 4 million light years away from Earth. NASA scientists believe J maybe twice the size of the black hole that exists in our galaxy. Large black holes can be found at the center of virtually all large galaxies (which could give creedence to mine & other mad scientist's theory of black holes being a "stargate" kinda situation to other galaxies & maybe even other dimensions. Oooo nerd goosebumps.) and can be millions to billions of times the mass of our sun. These motherfuckers have the sinister ability to tear apart anything that crosses its path icegrill or no. You'd be able to tell when a black hole just pulled a jack move on somebody by a bright flare of ultraviolet gamma & x-rays, which can literally though allegedly last for years as the star is slowly eaten. "It was nothing like we expected for a gamma-ray burst," said Ashley Zauderer, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics who helped co-author one of two studies on the event.

This is how scientists believed it all went down.

The theory they are working with is that the unlucky star must have strayed too close to the supermassive black hole, which is approximately twice the mass of the four-million-solar-mass supermassive black hole residing in the center of the Milky Way.

Discovery News said the tidal shear close to the black hole's event horizon is so powerful, the star's structure would have warped dramatically. Very quickly, the stellar plasma will have streamed around the spinning black hole, forming a superheated disk of plasma. The plasma closest to the black hole then got pulled into the event horizon, accelerating as it did so, according to Discovery News.

The discovery article stated that the rapid acceleration and complex magnetic fields nearest to the black hole then funneled the matter into the event horizon. However, some of the matter escaped as jets, blasting into space at relativistic speeds (exceeding 90 percent the speed of light) from the black hole's spin axis.

One of those jets was pointed directly at the Swift satellite that caught the powerful X-rays created right at the base of the jet. Powerful radio waves were also detected as the relativistic jet slammed into the interstellar medium surrounding the black hole. Eat your heart out CSI: (insert random city here). Hurricane Irene Makes Landfall

Hurricane Irene made landfall on the Outer Banks of North Carolina at dawn this morning. She immediately made her presence felt slamming the southeast coast with winds of 80 mph. She's currently moving up the mid-Atlantic coast leaving at least 4 dead and nearly 1 million without power in her wake so far. My fellow New Yorkers and myself can expect Irene to hit sometime this evening. Mayor Bloomberg has shutdown the city in lieu of the storm closing bridges, discontinuing MTA services & even threatening to shutdown power to the city throughout tonight and Sunday. More than 13,000 people checked into 150 Red Cross shelters across 6 states Friday night. It's been reported more shelters would be open today. Despite President Obama declaring a state of emergency Friday an untold number of people (including yours truly) decided to ride the storm out in the comfort of their own homes. So after a freak earthquake Tuesday & Hurricane this weekend it would seem Mother Nature & the East coast have some issues to work through. Be safe out there you guys. Props to cbsnews.

Alex Rodriguez Goes Hitless But feels Good After Surgery

In his first game since July 7th A-Rod went 0 for 5 in the Yankees' 3-0 win over the Minnesota Twins today. A-Rod however told Joe Girardi that he "felt fine" when Girardi asked him how he was holding up during the 8th inning. Rodriguez recently under went surgery on his right knee and saw his first return to the third base position today. So A-Rod's return from the disabled list could be considered a success for the Yanks. Don't believe me? Well, let the man tell it himself, “For the most part, I liked the way I felt out there,” Rodriguez said. Girardi did say, “His timing looked a little off” though but Rodriguez insisted "he was free from the hesitation that had lingered during his most recent minor-league rehab games." Despite going hitless A-Rod did field the ball pretty well. In one instance bare handing an attempted bunt down the third base line stopping a runner at first base with a strong throw in the sixth inning. So it looks like we're on track for number 28, yeah? Colts Owner Tweets He's In Favre's Hometown

Twitter may just be considered a "reliable" source of information now. Though nothing is set in stone Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay may be trying to lure number 4 himself, Brett Favre to the Colts. Irsay tweeted today that he was in Hattiesburg, Mississippi near Favre's home in Kiln. Though it wasn't confirmed exactly why he was in Mississippi Irsay had been tweeting asking fans what free agent they should try picking up in the event QB Peyton Manning isn't game ready by the season opener. Manning had neck surgery in May & decided he'd sit out the preseason. Favre, 41 on the other hand is fresh into his retirement which he made this off season after a 20 year career. Favre's agent Bus Cook said that he hadn't spoken to Brett in a few days so as far as we know Irsay is just rambling as some tend to do on twitter. OUR leaders have asked for “shared sacrifice.” But when they did the asking, they spared me. I checked with my mega-rich friends to learn what pain they were expecting. They, too, were left untouched.

While the poor and middle class fight for us in Afghanistan, and while most Americans struggle to make ends meet, we mega-rich continue to get our extraordinary tax breaks. Some of us are investment managers who earn billions from our daily labors but are allowed to classify our income as “carried interest,” thereby getting a bargain 15 percent tax rate. Others own stock index futures for 10 minutes and have 60 percent of their gain taxed at 15 percent, as if they’d been long-term investors.

These and other blessings are showered upon us by legislators in Washington who feel compelled to protect us, much as if we were spotted owls or some other endangered species. It’s nice to have friends in high places.

Last year my federal tax bill — the income tax I paid, as well as payroll taxes paid by me and on my behalf — was $6,938,744. That sounds like a lot of money. But what I paid was only 17.4 percent of my taxable income — and that’s actually a lower percentage than was paid by any of the other 20 people in our office. Their tax burdens ranged from 33 percent to 41 percent and averaged 36 percent.

If you make money with money, as some of my super-rich friends do, your percentage may be a bit lower than mine. But if you earn money from a job, your percentage will surely exceed mine — most likely by a lot.

To understand why, you need to examine the sources of government revenue. Last year about 80 percent of these revenues came from personal income taxes and payroll taxes. The mega-rich pay income taxes at a rate of 15 percent on most of their earnings but pay practically nothing in payroll taxes. It’s a different story for the middle class: typically, they fall into the 15 percent and 25 percent income tax brackets, and then are hit with heavy payroll taxes to boot.

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, tax rates for the rich were far higher, and my percentage rate was in the middle of the pack. According to a theory I sometimes hear, I should have thrown a fit and refused to invest because of the elevated tax rates on capital gains and dividends.

I didn’t refuse, nor did others. I have worked with investors for 60 years and I have yet to see anyone — not even when capital gains rates were 39.9 percent in 1976-77 — shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain. People invest to make money, and potential taxes have never scared them off. And to those who argue that higher rates hurt job creation, I would note that a net of nearly 40 million jobs were added between 1980 and 2000. You know what’s happened since then: lower tax rates and far lower job creation.

Since 1992, the I.R.S. has compiled data from the returns of the 400 Americans reporting the largest income. In 1992, the top 400 had aggregate taxable income of $16.9 billion and paid federal taxes of 29.2 percent on that sum. In 2008, the aggregate income of the highest 400 had soared to $90.9 billion — a staggering $227.4 million on average — but the rate paid had fallen to 21.5 percent.

The taxes I refer to here include only federal income tax, but you can be sure that any payroll tax for the 400 was inconsequential compared to income. In fact, 88 of the 400 in 2008 reported no wages at all, though every one of them reported capital gains. Some of my brethren may shun work but they all like to invest. (I can relate to that.)

I know well many of the mega-rich and, by and large, they are very decent people. They love America and appreciate the opportunity this country has given them. Many have joined the Giving Pledge, promising to give most of their wealth to philanthropy. Most wouldn’t mind being told to pay more in taxes as well, particularly when so many of their fellow citizens are truly suffering.

Twelve members of Congress will soon take on the crucial job of rearranging our country’s finances. They’ve been instructed to devise a plan that reduces the 10-year deficit by at least $1.5 trillion. It’s vital, however, that they achieve far more than that. Americans are rapidly losing faith in the ability of Congress to deal with our country’s fiscal problems. Only action that is immediate, real and very substantial will prevent that doubt from morphing into hopelessness. That feeling can create its own reality.

Job one for the 12 is to pare down some future promises that even a rich America can’t fulfill. Big money must be saved here. The 12 should then turn to the issue of revenues. I would leave rates for 99.7 percent of taxpayers unchanged and continue the current 2-percentage-point reduction in the employee contribution to the payroll tax. This cut helps the poor and the middle class, who need every break they can get.

But for those making more than $1 million — there were 236,883 such households in 2009 — I would raise rates immediately on taxable income in excess of $1 million, including, of course, dividends and capital gains. And for those who make $10 million or more — there were 8,274 in 2009 — I would suggest an additional increase in rate.

My friends and I have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress. It’s time for our government to get serious about shared sacrifice.

23yr old Experiences Bureaucratic Nightmare Because Of A Name

David Rivera is a 23-year-old Bronx native and he's been through any person of color's worst nightmare. Because of a 20-year-old mistake on his birth certificate, where his first name was wrongly listed "Male" the highschool graduate can't get a job or go to college. Rivera even fears being stopped & possibly arrested by the cops in the Throggs Neck Houses where he lives because he doesn't have proper ID. He can't get a proper ID from the DMV because of the conflict with his birth certificate even though his Social Security & Medicaid cards have his proper name. And he can't clear the matter up with hospital records because St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn where he was born has been closed down. Because of accusations that his relatives were abusing him David was bounced around group homes & foster care his entire childhood. He even spent time at Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Residential Treatment Center in Westchester County as a teen where he got help getting his life on track. He got a summer job at the Bronx Zoo with the school's help and experienced no problems with his ID then. Rivera was oblivious to the matter until he graduated & tried to get a job on his own. The city Health Department forced his family to hire a lawyer who filed a petition to the Manhattan Supreme Court to have the document changed to read his real legal name. In the meantime David Rivera may be his real name but to the government is merely known as "Mr. X". I hope everything works out for this guy. Spotted at nypost.com.

Dozens Of Teens Arrested In Philly For Breaking Curfew

Philadelphia's teenage demographic is in danger of losing more than their car keys for breaking curfew these days. Turns out if you're a teenager & out after 9pm you could get locked up. The new 9pm curfew was being enforced this weekend in Philly where dozens of teens were arrested for staying out too late. The initiative was apparently started to keep "bands of marauding thugs off the streets." Philly's Mayor Michael Nutter earlier this week called for kids younger than 18 years of age to be in the crib by 9pm on Fridays & Saturdays as an answer to a recent string of violent crimes allegedly perpetrated by teenage mobs. 50 teens in the Center and University City neighborhoods were arrested on Friday. While 12 got got on Saturday night. The authorities are really taking this shit fa' serious. In other parts of the city under 13 year olds must be inside by 10pm while those under 18 have to be in by midnight. Fines can range from $100 to $300 for the kids and up to $500 for parents if their kids choose to repeat the offense. Before now deviants were coordinating attacks & other crimes via twitter & facebook. Attacks on men & women throughout the downtown Philly area were rampant for months. The mayor said its the work of a small group of "complete knuckleheads." He also said, "You've damaged yourself, you've damaged another person, you've damaged your peers and, quite honestly, you've damaged your own race," the 54-year-old mayor, who is black, said at his West Philadelphia church last week.

He also lectured parents in the city's African-American communities about taking responsibility for their children.

"That's part of the problem in the black community. ... We have too many men making too many babies they don't want to take care of and then we end up dealing with your children." So in a nutshell a small number of kids are going completely f@cking "beyond thunderdome" out there and the city is fighting back by establishing a curfew. Huge Dark Planet Discovered Not Far From Earth

Black Holes are no longer the premier astronomical objects in the universe that have something against reflecting light. News broke a few hours ago that astronomers have discovered a big honking, Jupiter-sized gas giant they've named TrES-2b a mere 750 light years away from Earth. Which is like right down the block considering our sun basically lives in the same building as us being 93 million miles away from Earth (scope people, scope). So why is this guy like a black hole? Well TrES is the darkest exoplanet that astronomers have ever happened upon. NASA's Kepler spacecraft suggest TrES reflects less than one percent of the sunlight thats hits it. This is crazy because the star TrES orbits is only 3 million miles away from it (remember: ours is only 93 million miles away from us). TrES-2b's temperature averages out at around 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit (gotdamn!) Space guys say there's no indication that the planet's retardedly hot atmosphere being riddled with light-absorbing chemicals isn't the direct reason why it fails to reflect serious amounts of light, they don't really know what's responsible for TrES being exceptionally dark. Princeton University professor David Spiegel who's paper is also responsible for revealing the planet's existence says that "However, it's not completely pitch black. It's so hot that it emits a faint red glow, much like a burning ember or the coils on an electric stove." So no, we can't live there. The chances of life existing there is very, very impossible. Potential Republican Presidential candidate Michelle Bachmann got a little bit closer to being the official Republican frontrunner for the presidency. Bachmann won the Iowa straw poll of Republicans today edging out Ron Paul & other Republican hopefuls in the first big unofficial test of the 2012 presidential campaign. The straw poll is Iowa's nonbinding mock election, traditionally held as an early indicator of organizational strength in the same state that holds the first 2012 nominating contest. Bachmann, a Minnesota representative managed to accumulate 4,823 not real votes. Taking fake 2nd & 3rd place was Ron Paul with 4,671 fake votes & Tim Pawlenty with 2,293. Texas Govenor Rick Perry was in South Carolina and had some scathing remarks about the current administration (what else is new) saying, "We cannot afford four more years of this rudderless leadership." Some other republican hopefuls pandered to the make believe voters trying to get them to pay attention to whatever they were talking about or claimed to be a proponent of. So ladies & gentlemen it has begun. let's all get ready for some good hand kissing & baby shaking.

I think I nailed it, though. The concept was to take the prefix “ex”, and other words with a syllable that stressed the “ex” sound, and flip it into a cohesive song. Dame Dash Talks $3 Million Tax Debt

Dame Dash opened up about his tax problems last Friday with Sway about the tax lien filed against him on June 30. Check the stoty as Dame sets the record straight with Sway on his Shade 45 radio show: After being asked about owing "$2 million," Dash quickly set the record straight: "I owe way more than $2 million in taxes. That must've just been the IRS," Dash said, laughing, before admitting that he was in a bad space financially. "Nah, nah, I'm f---ed up."

Dame made his mark alongside Jay-Z and Kareem "Biggs" Burke in the mid-1990s. After the trio founded Roc-A-Fella Records and released a few street singles, they dropped Jay-Z's debut album, Reasonable Doubt, in 1996 and embarked on a storied run. In the following years, Roc-A-Fella would continue to put out records from Hov and also introduce new artists such as Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel and, of course, Kanye West. By 2005, however, it all came crashing down, and Jay-Z parted ways with Dash and Burke, leaving them on the outside looking in.

Dash has since started new business ventures, and on Friday, the DD172 CEO told Sway that when it comes to his tax troubles, he just doesn't have the money. It isn't because he is broke, Dame insisted, but rather because he redistributes his money back into his many companies, choosing to reinvest instead of making a profit off the top. "It's the price of business; it is what it is," he explained. "I owe taxes: I got to pay.

"They're auditing me. When you're a business man, you have a lot of businesses, a lot of times they think you're laundering money or you're pretending you're writing things off that you don't," he continued. "I'm a true businessman. As you know, I believe in my independence, I have no partners, so every dollar I make goes right back into every business I have."

Dash charges that the audit is a result of his accountant's failure to itemize his expenses. "If I have an accountant that just reports I just invested $10 million in my business and he doesn't exactly itemize where every cost goes, it gives a flag to the government," he said. "They want to make sure that the reason I'm not paying taxes is because I'm reinvesting in these businesses and not trying to hide stuff."

Now, DD has to wait until the government goes through his books. H said he thinks it might take a while before things are sorted out. "They gotta look at every single transaction, and the government is slow," he said. "They really don't believe that I'm so real about putting all of my money into my business, but that's what I do."

Big Boi Arrested for Illegal Possession

Big Boi of Outkast was arrested earlier today in Miami for 3 counts of possession of a controlled substance & 1 count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Apparently dude man was caught holding viagra, ecstasy pills & MDMA powder while leaving a cruise ship. He didn't have a perscription for the viagra nor did he have one for the ecstasy or MDMA powder (because you can't get a perscription for those silly). Big Boi was held on $16,000 bond but was released early this evening where he immediately tweeted: "fresh out baby!" still cooler than a polar bear's toenails.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Runs Shit @ The Box Office

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES went "apeshit" at the box office on it's opening weekend in North American theaters this weekend & pulled in $54 million. The flick went all King Kong on Jason Bateman & Ryan Reynold's THE CHANGE-UP ($13.5 million). & threw poo at Jon Favreau's COWBOYS & ALIENS ($15.8 million). THE SMURFS movie managed to keep up though bringing in $21 million (seriously??). Somewhere Charlton Heston is smiling...and possibly shooting a gun.
